Maple Valley appears to be closer to getting a health-care clinic in the Four Corners area.
The City Council passed a resolution at the council meeting Monday changing the interim zoning for the business park central area allowing Swedish Medical Center to develop a 50,000 square-foot clinic.
The council approved a revision of the requirements by a 6-0 vote. Councilman Noel Gerken was not present at the meeting.
The property is located along 264th Street East across from Motorplex. Roger White, manager and co-owner of property, spoke before the council Monday.
“It’s an exciting opportunity,” White said. “Between the Fred Meyer and this project you are looking at union to top 1 percent wages.”
Fred Meyer is also proposing to build a store in the Four Corners area.
Eric Olinder read a letter at the meeting from Kevin Brown, chief administrative officer of Swedish that stated “Maple Valley stands out as an under-served area (for a health care clinic).
Olinder said by phone Tuesday the hope is to break ground on the project this year. But a purchase agreement has to be settled with White and the developer must apply for city permits.
Olinder thought Swedish would purchase about four acres of the 12-acre site for the facility and construction would take about one year.
