Sullivan leads, Hargrove has narrow lead in 47th while Mullett and Magendanz were ahead in the 5th | Election Updates

In the 47th Legislative District one race was close while the other was a landslide as the first set of results were posted Tuesday night with more definitive results in both seats up for grabs in the 5th district.

The first round of election results are in.

In the 47th Legislative District one race was incredibly close while the other appeared to be a landslide as the first set of results were posted Tuesday night.

As the first round of election results rolled in the race between Republican incumbent Mark Hargrove, who is seeking a second term, and Democratic challenger Bud Sizemore was a tight race.

Hargrove had a narrow lead with 50.1 percent, or 16,279 votes, to Sizemore’s 49.82 percent, or 16,188 votes when the first round of results were posted at 8:20 p.m.

Meanwhile, House Majority Leader Pat Sullivan, a Democrat from Covington, took on Republican challenger Andy Massagli for the Position 2 seat and as the first round of ballots were tallied the incumbent was winning with 59.41 percent of the vote with 19,080 voters selecting Sullivan.

In the 5th district, directly to the east of the 47th, two seats were up for grabs.

Mark Mullet led in the 5th Legislative District Senate race with 53.76 percent, having tallied 21,061 votes, while Brad Toft collected 46.08 percent or 18,054 ballots in his favor.
Mullet, a Democrat, and Republican Toft, were battling for the State Senate seat vacated by long-time legislator Cheryl Pflug of Maple Valley, who left the race when she was appointed by Gov. Chris Gregoire to the state’s Growth Management Planning Council.
In the race for Position 2 in the House, which had long been held by Republican Glenn Anderson who chose to make what turned out to be an unsuccessful run for lieutenant governor, was between Democrat David Spring who is making his third run at the seat and Republican Chad Magendanz who led after the first round of results came in with 54.81 percent of the vote.
Republican Jay Rodne, the incumbent in Position 1 for the state House of Representatives for the 5th, ran unopposed.

In the King County Sheriff election John Urquhart leads the current sheriff, Steve Strachan 57-42 percent.

 

According to the King County elections website, results will be posted at 4:30 p.m. daily until Nov. 27 when the election will be certified.

In the governor’s race Democrat Jay Inslee is leading Rob McKenna 51 percent to 48 percent.

For attorney general, Bob Ferguson leads Reagan Dunn 53-47 percent.

The measure to legalize marijuana is passing as is the same-sex marriage and charter school measures
