State closes state Route 410 near Chinook Pass due to heavy snow

The state Department of Transportation closed both state Route 410 (Chinook Pass) and state Route 123 (Cayuse Pass) today at 8 a.m. because of heavy snow and ice.

The state Department of Transportation closed both state Route 410 (Chinook Pass) and state Route 123 (Cayuse Pass) today at 8 a.m. because of heavy snow and ice.

State Route 410 is closed from the SR 410 gates at Morse Creek (five miles east of the summit) and at Crystal Mountain Boulevard (eight miles northwest of the summit). State Route 123 is closed within Mount Rainier National Park from the Cayuse Pass summit at the junction of SR 410 and SR 123 to Steven Canyon Road.

This closure is not for the season. It is being assessed when the passes can reopen.
