Glacier Park Elementary received a literal dump truck load of compost last week as part of Cedar Grove’s Big Garden Give. The students on the school’s green team collected produce stickers and completed sticker cards. For each card filled with stickers, an equivalent of a bag of compost was donated to the school by Cedar Grove.
The school will use the compost in their garden, one of only a few school gardens in the area.
Not only do all of their yields go to the Maple Valley Food Bank, they also try to recycle and reuse as many things as possible in the garden. That includes using metal gutters to plant strawberries and using plastic milk jugs for lettuce. They also use old dryer drums to grow potatoes.
