The doors of the renovated Lake Wilderness Lodge were officially opened Sunday during a 2 p.m. ceremony.

City Council members, city staff, residents and friends of the city came to celebrate the event.

Mayor Laure Iddings said, “The greatest asset the city of Maple Valley has is Lake Wilderness and this lodge.”

Also present were Anthony Hemstad, former city manager, and state Sen. Cheryl Pflug, R-Maple Valley. Both were credited during the ceremony for helping secure the funds for the project.

The lodge was constructed in 1950.

The city took over the lodge in 2003.

A master plan to restore the lodge and make improvements to 108-acre park was developed in 2007.

Pflugh helped the city secure a $1.5 million grant from the state Department of Commerce, Trade and Economic Development in 2007.
