The Muscular Dystrophy Association fundrasing event Friday filled the boot with funds and showed the community’s williness to support the cause.

Maple Valley firefighters along with city police, staff, King County Medic One personnel and firefighters from Renton and Shoreline collected donations at the intersection of Kent Kangley Road and State Route 169.

The total rang up at $9,326.89, $1,200 more than last year.

“It was amazing considering the financial environment,” Firefighter Jason Fox said. “It was a long day, but a lot of fun.”

Along with the firefighters, staff and police were young people ranging in age from toddlers on up.

Leading the group of youths was 2009 Muscular Dystrophy Association’s Local Goodwill Ambassador, Lindsey Muskiewicz, 11, from Maple Valley.

Lindsey along with her brother Brandon, 9, collected money and waved at people driving past.

Fox said he has brought his son for the past four years. Jaden is 8-years-old and his sister Hailey, 5, also joined in the fun.

“We always look forward to it,” Jason Fox said.
