The duo, Skinny People Kissing, will be performing from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14 at Maple Valley Farmers Market.
The band members are Nick Foster, a Central Washington University graduate from Maple Valley, and Kelsey French, a Central graduate from Poulsbo.
Foster and French have been together for two years. Their song “Veins Like Vines” can found on their website, www.myspace.com/skinnypeoplekissing. The two are in the process of recording an album entitled “The Myth of Sisyphus,” which they hope to finish by the end of summer.
The two perform at open mic nights on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month at the Maple Valley Creative Arts Center and on the fourth Monday of the month at Lombardi’s in Issaquah.
The theme of the day at the market is community connections and is the brainchild of Allison Scott, senior program director for the Greater Maple Valley Community Center. Scott will host a booth highlighting the offerings of the Maple Valley Community Center, including Wii bowling, yoga demonstrations offered by their senior instructor and more information about the wide array of offerings at the center.
Another non-profit booth will be sponsored by Lake Wilderness Arboretum Foundation. Widely known for their plant sales and beautifully manicured grounds, the foundation’s booth will provide more information about its accomplishments and how to get involved.
Maple Valley Library Guild, a nonprofit group that supports library programming for children, teens and adults through its ongoing book cart sales and its twice yearly book sales, will also host a booth at Saturday’s market.
As a service to the youth in our community, the market offers booth space, up to two stalls per market day (subject to availability and approval by the market manager) to young entrepreneurs who attend school within the Tahoma School District boundaries. The booths provide the young entrepreneurs with an avenue to sell handmade items utilizing materials made in the state and appropriate for the market environment. This allows young adults to feature their products, boost their sales, gain valuable business experience and enjoy the market.
Hollye Tufts will be at the market Aug. 14 and 21. She will sell custom handbags.
Back for the second and final time this season is Bailey Pricco, a youth entrepreneur who will sell her nature and landscape photos from the Cedar River and Maple Valley area. Pricco, a Tahoma High senior, has been taking photographs for three years, but this is her first year to venture into sales.
The heart of the market is the produce and local farmers featuring heirloom tomatoes, lettuce, peaches, onions – all of carefully planted, tended and harvested by local farmers who take pride in the quality of their produce and in bringing their customers safe, field-fresh produce.
In addition, cheese, bread, bakery goods, biscotti, delectable prepared foods, organic milk, organic meat, lavender products, fresh flowers, plants, Kettle Corn, artistic creations are available at the Saturday morning place to be.
The farmers market is open from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. every Saturday through Oct. 9 at Rock Creek Elementary, 25700 Maple Valley-Black Diamond Road SE, Maple Valley.
