Kentlake gymnast Kayla Shira won the individual all-around state championship Friday at the Tacoma Dome.
With a score of 38.050, Shira, a senior, beat out the second place finisher Hailey Wells from Woodinville who scored 37.850.
Reporter Shawn Skager said Shira clinched the crown with a dazzling floor routine. Skager said the gymnast was behind in points going into the floor event, but clinched the top prize with one of her best efforts scoring 9.825.
Individual events begin today.
