Shadow Lake gog anticipates over 100 guests at the annual Shadow of the Rose party Saturday from 2-6 p.m. in celebration of local conservation efforts. Tours, live music and food will engage guests to learn about and support the efforts of Save Habitat and Diversity of Wetlands (SHADOW), a 501©(3) grassroots organization dedicated to the preservation of wetlands through land acquisition, education and outreach.
The bog is a popular destination for local organizations, school field trips and family outings.
Beginning his fall, SHADOW will be featured as an example of local environmental stewardship in the Tahoma School District fourth grade curriculum in sustainability. SHADOW has collaborated with numerous organizations to provide educational and recreational opportunities and to conduct restoration projects which restore natural hydrological flows, cultivate healthy native plant landscapes and improve wildlife habitat.
SHADOW will conduct a roadside clean up on Saturday, Sept. 26th from 10 a.m.- noon and is looking for volunteers to help keep the neighborhood clean and beautiful. SHADOW is also looking for volunteers to plant conifer trees on an upland forest restoration site on Sunday, Oct. 25th from 10 a.m-1 p.m. SHADOW invites families, school groups and companies/organizations to schedule a forest restoration field trip in the fall. The field trip will begin with an educational tour and will follow with data collection and/or planting of trees.
