Seattle Seahawks fullback Owen Schmitt was arrested Saturday on suspicion of drunken driving, according to the Black Diamond Police Department.
An officer arrested Schmitt on suspicion of drunk driving after he noticed Schmitt “weaving on the roadway and following too close.”
The officer noticed signs on intoxication including the smell of alcohol. Schmitt failed field sobriety tests, was arrested and processed for driving under the influence.
The Seahawks released a written statement from Schmitt Thursday.
“I sincerely apologize to the team, the NFL, the fans and my family and friends for my actions and my poor judgment,” the statement said. “I fully understand the seriousness of this matter, and I am disappointed in myself. I am committed to earning back the trust of everyone affected.”
Schmitt is entering his second season and is a favorite to win the starting fullback job for the Seahawks.
