King County Metro Transit advised customers that they should expect “possibly significant traffic and schedule delays” on Wednesday and Thursday during Seahawks and NFL events and activities in the Pioneer Square and Stadium areas, leading up to the Seahawks home opener on Thursday evening.

Expect delays in transit service

While it is expected that most transit service will operate regular routes and serve the usual stops, traffic and congestion related to these events could cause crowding and delays on streets and for all types of transportation in the area.

Transit riders should expect delays on any service that travels in or near downtown Seattle and possible in other areas of the system as these types of events and delays often affect other areas and routes. Metro advises riders to plan ahead, and allow plenty of time or revise travel plans if necessary. Use the regularly published schedule for your service, but expect delays and plan accordingly.

Routes 16, 66 & 99 will be rerouted on Thursday

In addition to likely delays in service, all day on Thursday, Sept. 4, Metro routes 16, 66 and 99 will be rerouted off of South Jackson Street between Fourth and First avenues South, due to the Seahawks season-opening home game and NFL events.

During this event, northbound routes 16, 66 and 99 will travel instead via 4th Av S, Prefontaine Pl S, Yesler Way and 1st Av to their regular routes, serving all posted stops along the reroute.

Southbound routes 16 and 66 on their way into downtown Seattle will not be rerouted.

Southbound Route 99 heading toward the International District will travel via Cherry St, 2nd Av, the 2nd Av Ext S and S Jackson St to its regular route, serving all posted bus stops.
