Scholarships awarded
Three Tahoma students — Justin Freeman, Sophia Heinz and Jonathan Zosel — were awarded Pacific Lutheran University’s President’s Scholarship worth $26,000 a year. These three were among 127 selected based on academic achievement, service and leadership, according to a release from PLU.
Retired van goes on patrol
A recently retired Metro Vanpool van was given to the Covington Police Department.
According to a media release Jan. 29, the van will be used to transport seniors and young people.
“It is my honor to present this van to the Covington Police Department,” King County Council Vice Chair Reagan Dunn said in the release. “These vehicles are a tremendous resource, providing transportation for the many activities in the communities they ‘retire’ to.”

Retirement seminar
Retired school employees from the Washington State School Retirees Association’s four King County units including Unit 19 which includes Kent, Auburn, Renton and Tahoma are hosting a retirement seminar for anyone who has or currently works for a public school.

Alzheimer’s group seeks help
The Alzheimer’s Association is looking for volunteers to facilitate Family Caregiver Support Groups in Kent.
Facilitators aren’t required to be experts, they receive training, ongoing support, access to resources and continuing education opportunities, according to a release.
Working or retired social workers, healthcare professionals, educators and former family caregivers are best qualified to be a support group facilitator. A commitment of at least one year is required.
