The King County Sheriff’s Office conducted its second patrol emphasis in two months this past weekend.

Deputies from Maple Valley, Covington and New- castle began their shifts contacting a number of different businesses and patrons, in order to educate them on alternatives to driving impaired.

The next step was to patrol the streets.

Three drivers were arrested for DUI and a fourth is also being investigated for eluding police.

Only one of the DUI arrests was of a patron that had been at one of the 19 locations in southeast King County that were contacted earlier in the evening.

Following that arrest, deputies returned to the bar and told staff of the arrest.

Apart from the arrests, deputies handed out 21 warnings and 12 citations for non-alcohol/marijuana related violations.

The next planned DUI patrol emphasis is for the weekend of Dec. 2.

Random, unpublicized patrols will also happen throughout the remainder of the year.
