A record 39 tree sponsors supported this year’s Purple Light Nights campaign in Covington, according to Victoria Throm, Covington Domestic Violence Task Force Director.
Sponsors pay $100 per tree as part of October’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month. For the second year, students from Kentlake assisted with installation and removal of lights. According to Mr. Greg Kaas, one of the Leadership Teachers at Kentlake, the kids are a combination of Leadership, Falcon Crew (peer mentoring club) and general students.
“Kentlake is working hard on getting involved in the Covington community,” Kaas said in an email from Throm. “It’s a great opportunity for students to gain community service hours for their Culminating Project, Leadership class and various clubs.
All proceeds from the campaign go to the Covington Domestic Violence Task Force, which provides services to victims of domestic violence and their children. This includes safe nights in a motel, rental assistance for three families, gas cards, food and cell phones.
