Power lines and highway project are on the move

State highway officials were advising motorists last weekend to keep an eye out for workers relocating power lines on Interstate 405 as part of a larger project involving the Maple Valley Highway junction.

During daytime hours June 28-29, Puget Sound Energy had a truck on the southbound shoulder of I-405 between State Route 167 and State Route 169/Maple Valley Highway. The truck’s arm was extended over the median of I-405 to create a protective barrier while crews completed relocation of power lines, according to the state Department of Transportation.

No lanes were closed, but the work was a possible distraction for drivers, said DOT officials.

The lines are being moved in preparation for the second stage of the I-405/Interstate 5 to SR-169 widening and State Route 515 interchange project. Construction work is scheduled to begin late this year or early next year.
