Drivers should anticipate nightly detours this week on State Route 18 between Weyerhaeuser Way South and Interstate 5 as crews close all lanes to remove brackets and forms used build new concrete flyover ramps.
Tuesday and Wednesday nights, Jan. 3 and 4, the work will affect westbound SR 18 traffic. Crews will close a single lane of SR 18 at 9 p.m., and at the same time will close the northbound I-5 off-ramp to westbound SR 18. The westbound roadway will completely close at 11 p.m. Drivers will follow marked detours to connect to both directions of I-5. Crews will reopen a single lane of SR 18 to traffic each day at 4 a.m. The ramp and all lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. in time for the morning commute.
Thursday, Jan. 5, will be a little different as crews close all lanes of eastbound SR 18 from I-5 to Weyerhaeuser Way South. The plan calls for a single lane of SR 18 to close at 9 p.m., along with the southbound I-5 off-ramp to eastbound SR 18. All lanes of SR 18 will close by 11 p.m. while crews are working above the highway. At 4 a.m., a single lane of SR 18 will reopen to traffic. The ramp and all lanes will be open to traffic by 5 a.m.
The work is part of the $112.5 million I-5 – SR 161/SR 18 Triangle Improvements project, which will help eliminate weaving vehicle movements from those interchanges.
