Bicyclists will take to the roads in and around Black Diamond on Aug. 30 for a fund-raiser supporting efforts to combat diabetes.

The Black Diamond Ride to Cure Diabetes will raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and its quest for a cure for diabetes through research.

JDRF is the leading charitable funder and advocate of type 1 (juvenile) diabetes research worldwide. Since its founding in 1970 by parents of children with type 1 diabetes, JDRF has awarded more than $1.1 billion to diabetes research.

The Black Diamond ride is scheduled for 7 a.m. to noon, starting at Diamond Square.

A kids’ bike decorating station and bike helmet fit check and sale are planned for the first hour. The 14-mile family ride (ages 8 and above) will start at 8, and at 8:30, the Yarrow Bay-sponsored Family Ride Turn-Around Fun Zone will open with an inflatable jumper, a popcorn machine and an optional hay wagon return trip. Other activities will include a children’s bike safety rodeo, face painting, balloons and refreshments.
