50 hikers summited Mount Si over the weekend and raised over $5,500 for the Women Get It fund at MultiCare in Covington which provides mammograms for women with an emphasis on early detection.

Screening and early detection was key in Tami Kapule’s fight against breast cancer.

Kapule, a Black Diamond resident who works for the Kent Fire Department, was diagnosed in December. Her first-ever mammogram in May 2012 showed something suspicious but not scary, so, the staff at MultiCare in Covington suggested she return in six months to check again.

The group has surpassed the goal they set of raising $5,000, which will give over 25 women screenings they may not have been otherwise able to afford.
