King County residents have been given an extra 30 days of free disposal of flood-damaged debris.
The County Council on Jan. 26 unanimously approved an extension of a fee waiver for handling of debris from this month’s winter storms. Residents of the six communities still cleaning up from the floods – Carnation, Duvall, Issaquah, North Bend, Pacific and Snoqualmie – can now do so through Feb. 26 without the usual solid-waste disposal fees.
The initial waiver was scheduled to expire the same day the council voted to extend it.
The county Solid Waste Division will provide vouchers to residents who suffered flood damage for free disposal of debris at any of the county’s garbage transfer stations. Information about obtaining a voucher is available at (206) 296-4466.
Flood victims” should expect the county to support them in times of natural disaster,” said Councilman Reagan Dunn. “The Cedar River in my district left behind a trail of broken homes and lives. It will take months for many of my constituents to put their lives back together.”
