Crews working on the Washington State Department of Transportation’s I-5: SR 510 to SR 512 Congestion Management project will create a construction zone in the Interstate 5 highway median by narrowing lanes in both directions from 12 feet to 11 near Bridgeport Way.
Beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, through 6 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, crews will close up to three lanes in each direction to remove and replace the existing roadway striping with a temporary configuration to create the median workzone. Concrete barrier will also be added later to provide protection for workers and drivers.
Once in place, the construction zone will allow crews to build foundations for new sign bridges that will support variable message signs, which are electronic signs that provide motorists with information about traffic congestion and roadway incidents.
The lanes will return to their full width in spring 2014.
