The city of Maple Valley will be conducting inspections of private stormwater facilities between June and August. The facilities that will be inspected are those that have conveyance, flow control, and water quality systems and are located on private properties such as office buildings, retail buildings, apartments, churches, schools, automotive service businesses, restaurants, and commercial warehouses.
The goals of the private stormwater inspection program are:
- To reduce the amount of pollutant entering the City’s stormwater system and groundwater
- To reduce the potential occurrence of groundwater contamination, flooding, and erosion
- To improve water quality
- To ensure the stormwater system is functioning as originally designed
This effort is prompted by current National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Phase II municipal stormwater permit requirements.
Staff will work closely with the facility property owners to ensure they comply with the City’s current stormwater maintenance standards and requirements.
The goal is to preserve clean and safe waterways for the community, fish, animals, and habitat.
