The Maple Valley city staff will be in a new home for the New Year.
The staff will be moving from the current City Hall location at Hagen Plaza, 22035 S.E. Wax Rd., to the Dynamic Computer Services Organization/Windermere building at 22017 S.E.Wax Rd. next to the Post Office.
The City Council voted 6-1 to approve the move Aug. 24 after a contentions and at times hostile debate. It took more than two hours and five roll-call votes before the members could finally come to a decision.
DCS will be vacating the building this week and moving to 23849 225th Way S.E.
The city will be on the move Jan. 8.
Phone lines and computers should be up and running Jan. 11 with the doors open for city business.
City Manager David Johnston said the police department will be located on the first floor and city offices on the second.
The city decided to move because the lease at Hagen Plaza had expired and the staff had outgrown the facility. The site was not compliant with the Americans with Disability Act and security for staff was also a problem.
The long-range plan of the City Council is to build a City Hall facility on the Legacy site located across from Rock Creek Elementary along state Route 169 in the next 10 years.
