The city of Maple Valley Parks and Recreation Commission will hold an open house Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss what to do with two pieces of land.
The properties in question, “Henry’s Switch,” located at Highway 169 and SE 288th St and another lot located at 216th Avenue SE and SE 276th Street were purchased by the city over a decade ago for future park development.
One of the groups interested in Henry’s Switch is South Sound Critter Care, a nonprofit wildlife rehabilitation center currently located near the northwest side of Lake Sawyer.
Another entity interested in the property is a local land developer. However, the city also has ideas for developing the properties. Greg Brown, parks and recreation director, says people in the community are interested in the potential of a community garden and a dog park at either of the properties.
All members of the public are invited to give their input on the properties’ future development. The open house will be at Lake Wilderness Lodge, 22500 SE 248th Street.
