Incidents of the week

At 3:47 p.m. on Friday, May 10 in the 26000 block of 221st Place Southesast Maple Valley Fire and Life Safety, with mutual aid from Mountain View Fire  and Rescue and Kent Fire Department, were dispatched to a residential structure fire. Upon arrival firefighters found the main floor of home fully engulfed in fire. The sole occupant at home at the time was in the basement and was able to self-evacuate safely. Firefighters knocked the fire down in 20 minutes. The main floor and roof were heavily damaged. Losses were estimated at $369,000. The cause of the fire was accidental. No injuries were reported.

At 6:24 a.m. on Saturday, May 11 at 6:24 am in the 20200 block of 276th Avenue SE Maple Valley Fire & Life Safety with mutual aid from Kent Fire Department were dispatched to another residential structure fire. Upon arrival firefighters found a passerby attempting to extinguish the fire at the porch with a garden hose. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire despite the lack of hydrants in the area. Water had to be shuttled in by a tender. Losses were estimated at $10,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation. One civilian was treated for burns and smoke inhalation.
