Shawn Hunstock, finance director for the city of Maple Valley, was awarded a certificate of excellence in financial reporting at the City Council meeting on Monday.

Hunstock was recognized for his leadership in preparing the comprehensive annual financial report. The certificate was issued by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada, and presented by City Manager David Johnston. It is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting.

The report prepared by the Maple Valley Finance Department was judged by an impartial panel as meeting the high standards of the program including demonstrating full disclosure and clearly communicating its financial story while motivating potential users and user groups to read the report.
