The Maple Valley Big Band is scheduled to perform at Lake Wilderness Arboretum’s 50th Anniversary Celebration Sept. 12.

Established in 2012, the band is made up of 17 members from the surrounding local community and specializes in big band, swing, jazz, funk and standard tunes from the 50s to today. The band performs for community events all over Maple Valley, mostly recently appearing at the Maple Valley Creative Arts Council Arts Fair. With saxophones, trumpets, trombones and a rhythm section, musicians and singers of all ages play over 150 musical selections from their repertoire, songs like Birdland, Stormy Weather, Cheek to Cheek and more.

The band is supported by the Maple Valley Creative Arts Council, which encourages an appreciation for visual and performing arts in the community and in local schools. The public is invited to watch the next band practice, which will be held at the Maple Valley Performing Arts Center on July 5 from 4-6 p.m.

The arboretum is celebrating 50 years of volunteers with a weekend of events September 11 and 12.
