At 2 a.m. Feb. 5 a King County Sheriff’s Office deputy stopped to contact a suspiciously parked pickup truck near the Maple Valley Heights Park, SE 164 and 190 Ave SE.
The deputy made contact with the suspect who had been sleeping in the vehicle. While the deputy was trying to talk to the male he climbed into the driver’s seat, started the truck, and backed out at a high rate of speed, purposely ramming the patrol car and disabling it. The deputy was able to get out of the way and wasn’t injured.
The suspect fled in the truck but abandoned it about a ½ mile away where other deputies found it.
It turns out it was a stolen pickup truck that had been reported to Renton police on Jan. 31. It also had switched license plates.
An extensive K9 track along with Guardian 1 was conducted, but we didn’t locate the suspect.
The suspect is described as a white male, 30-35 years old, short brown hair (possibly balding) wearing a red flannel shirt type shirt.
The recovered stolen truck will be processed for evidence and detectives will be following up leads in an attempt to identify the suspect.
