King County Sheriff’s detectives are looking for witnesses to an incident where a 25-year-old man was shoved off a cliff and into the rocks next to the Green River. The man suffered serious back injuries in the fall.
The incident occurred about 4:15 p.m. on Sunday, July 25th. Justin Billups of Gig Harbor and a friend were at Kanasket-Palmer State Park when they noticed a 20 to 25 foot cliff and about a dozen people jumping off the cliff into the river. The two followed a trail to the top and the friend jumped off without injury.
Billup’s hesitated and somebody behind him said, “…don’t be a…., just jump”. Then he felt two hands on his shoulders from behind and he was pushed off the cliff. That person has not been located or identified.
Billups hit the rocks below before bouncing into the river. He was rescued by bystanders and has since undergone back surgery at Valley Medical Center where two rods and several screws were put this back. In addition to a back brace, Justin can’t put any weight on his broken foot and heel. More surgeries might be needed.
Detectives would like to talk to anyone who saw the incident or can provide additional information. Witnesses should call the King County Sheriff’s Office at 206-296-3311.
Donations to help pay for Billups’ medical bills can be made to the Justin P. Billups Donation Account at any KeyBank.
