Kristine Hanson will return to the campaign trail seeking a second term on the Black Diamond City Council.
The 44-year-old councilwoman said after four years she feels with the knowledge she has gained, she would like to “stay and share with the citizens and contribute to the city.”
She stated serving has presented a personal challenge and opportunity. For the past 23 years Hanson said she has been living with multiple sclerosis.
“I haven’t been able to work,” Hanson said. “This (serving on the council) is something I really enjoy and I am able to balance it with my health. It’s important for people with disabilities to find ways to contribute and find a balance in their lives.”
According to the National Institute of Health, multiple sclerosis is a chronic, inflammatory and autoimmune disease of the central nervous system. Symptoms include muscle weakness, visual impairment and difficulty with balance.
The highlights of the last four years for Hanson include the sidewalk program on Morgan Street, “being part of the sensitive areas ordinance and I am really proud of the Railroad Avenue project. That was exciting.”
She also pointed to the design guidelines for the YarrowBay master planned developments, The Villages and Lawson Hills.
“I think the Council has done a great job (on the design guidelines),” Hanson said.
The councilwoman added she enjoys serving on the Public Works Committee. She serves as the chair of that committee.
