Known closures throughout the area at this time

Due to weather conditions throughout the Pacific Northwest today, a number of local services have closed.

Below is a list of closures known at this time. However, there may be others. It is always best to check before heading out the door.

If you don’t have to leave your home, it is better not to.

First and foremost, be safe.

School closures

All Kent School District schools and offices have been closed Monday due to weather.

The same goes for the Tahoma School District.

All evening activities have also been canceled.

Plowing snow routes

The city of Covington posted on its Facebook page crews are out plowing primary snow routes.

As it continues to snow, crews will continue to plow and work on sanding/de-icing, the post read.

The city of Maple Valley also posted on its Facebook page this morning that crews are de-icing, sanding and plowing roads.

The city also posted a reminder of what to do if the power happens to go out as well — use flashlights instead of candles, keep portable heaters away from furniture or flammable materials and if you see a downed power line, call PSE at 1-888-225-5773 or 911 to report any problems.

Pool is closed

The Covington Aquatic Center announced it is closed due to the weather and road conditions.

Garbage collection suspended

Recology CleanScapes announced it has suspended collection for garbage, recycling and compost today, Monday, Feb. 4 in Maple Valley.

According to a release, Recology CleanScapes anticipates conditions will improve allowing service to resume Tuesday, Feb. 5.

For those residents who did not get their items collected Monday will be serviced on their next scheduled collection date, Feb. 11, the release stated.

Recology will collect any reasonable accumulated material free of charge at that time.

Service will continue on the normal collection schedule for the remainder of the week unless there are further disruptions.
