Washington State University King County Extension 4-H Dog Program will send two teams to defend their Washington state championship titles in the Dog Bowl competition Sept. 18th.

Dog Bowl is an event similar to Jeopardy, but with teams of four people. The following King County teams will be defending both the intermediate, grades 6-8, and senior, grades 9-12, age-group champion titles.  The intermediate team includes Elizabeth Bultman, Allison DeBoer, Elyse Fleming, Erin Hood, and alternates Hailey Mueller and Elise Dunning.  The Senior Team consists of Tia Smith, Addie Pardi, Rache Eulau, Kelsey Messecar, and alternates Emily Andrew and Gabriella Sechrist.

Most of these members along with intermediates Jessica Bruce, Marina Graham, Natalie McGrath, Holly Hinnant, and Abigail Helm and Seniors Nicole Shriver, Chelsea Barbarick, and Becca Saunders will also be competing in a dog judging competition Sept. 17. Each year during the King County Fair members of the 4-H dog project compete at the county level to earn spots on the state teams.

These events provide opportunities for youth enrolled in the 4-H dog project to demonstrate their knowledge of dog-related subjects. The event is friendly, fair, and highly competitive throughout Washington state for the coveted state titles. Team members are asked questions about dog breeds, anatomy, and health, as well as dog 4-H and AKC shows.

The 4-H dog project members and their families have a lot of fun with their dogs as they learn and develop leadership, citizenship, and life skills.
