Kelly Carroll at R. Place for Refuge, who asked the community last month for an “act of kindness” to help replace the charity organization’s burned-up delivery truck that’s used to deliver food and other items to needy families, received a new one before the month was up.
Larson Auto Group of Tacoma donated a 1994 Dodge Ram pickup to the Kent-based charity to allow them to continue their work in Covington, Maple Valley and other south King County areas.
“It’s wonderful,” she said.
R. Place’s old truck, a 1980s Ford F250, was destroyed in a fire Aug. 18 apparently caused by mechanical problems. Carroll told him the good news, but joked that the new truck’s radio was broken. Carroll said the man gave her $200 and told her to get a new stereo for the vehicle.
“And then he walked away,” she said.
The new truck is slightly larger then the previous one, has new tires and is “very comfortable,” Carroll said. She added she’s trying to raise money for increased insurance costs and gas.
R. Place for Refuge accepts donations of school supplies, gas cards and store gift cards. All donations are tax-deductible. More information is available at www.rplaceofrefuge.org and from Carroll at (206) 255-1178.
