As part of the AP STEM access program sponsored by Google, DonorsChoose.org and the College Board, Kentlake High School was awarded a grant to start a new AP Environmental Science program.
The goal of the grant is to increase the number of underrepresented minority and female high school students to participate in advanced placement courses.
The grant aligns with Kent School District’s strategic plan to maximize resources and strive for high student achievement. Research shows that encouraging students with strong potential to participate in Advanced Placement math and science courses significantly increases their chances of pursuing college and career paths.
The grant, which is potentially worth approximately $9,000, will help with the program’s startup costs and teacher training.
