A house fire in the 25400 block of 29th Avenue South displaces five; three adults and two minors. Although the house had working smoke detectors, it was one of the residents who realized there was a fire and woke the rest of the family to allow them to escape without harm. There was also an alert passerby that started pounding on the front door to ensure the occupants were aware of the fire.
The initial 911 call came in around 3:30 a.m. The first responding unit saw fire on arrival and immediately upgraded the call to a working residential fire. That upgrade allowed for more resources to be dedicated to the fire call. Firefighters started fighting the fire from the outside but quickly made their way inside to make sure all residents were out and to continue fighting the fire. The fire was declared under control before 4 a.m.
Firefighters from the Kent Fire Department RFA and South King Fire Rescue responded to this call. Paramedics of King County Medic One and the Zone 3 Rehab Unit also responded. The American Red Cross was not needed although they were initially requested.
The fire cause was “undetermined” per a Kent Fire Department Investigator with no malice indicated. It was clear the fire started in the garage and moved into the house but the cause was not obvious. The estimated fire damage is $75,000. Unfortunately, during the investigation, one of the family’s pets was found deceased.
