Two boys were arrested Thursday afternoon after they allegedly made verbal threats to a Kent School District bus driver and one of the boys displayed a handgun.

Kent Police responded to 64th Avenue South and West Meeker Street just before 3 p.m. to the report of threats with a gun.

The two boys were reportedly standing at a public bus stop, making verbal threats towards the bus driver as he was stopped at a traffic signal. While shouting at the driver, one of the boy displayed a handgun tucked into his waistband, Kent Police said in a media release. The two boys then walked off as the bus driver drove down the street.

Kent Police arrested the two boys described by the victim. One of them had the firearm still tucked in his waistband at the time officers detained him, Kent Police reported.

The verbal threats were directed at the bus driver and not at the students on the bus, Kent Police said.

“The bus driver conducted himself in a professional and thoughtful manner considering these circumstances,” Police Cmdr. Jarod Kasner said in the media release.

The two boys were booked into the King County Juvenile Detention Center.
