Six people have been displaced following a house fire in the 10200 block of SE 228 Street today.
Initially dispatched as a “minor” stovetop fire at 1:12 pm, the call was upgraded to a “residential fire” when the residents reported that the entire kitchen was on fire. Upgrading the call brings additional emergency resources to the incident.
When firefighters arrived on scene from the Kent RFA and the Renton FD, they found smoke and flames coming from the back of the house on the first floor. Attacking the fire quickly, crews were able to limit the fire to the kitchen, but smoke and heat had also damaged both floors of the home.
The two residents home at the time of the fire initially complained of smoke inhalation and were evaluated by paramedics. There were no other reported injuries.
The Kent RFA fire investigator has ruled the fire cause as “undetermined”, indicating that there was not sufficient evidence to determine the exact cause of the fire in the kitchen. The fire is considered accidental.
Red Cross is assisting the family.
