Jammin’ Marching Band looking for adult and student musicians to practice with them at Kentlake

Musicians have a pair of opportunities to get their groove on this summer with the Carly Stowell Foundation.

Rehearsals start at 6 p.m., Thursday, June 23, at Kentlake High for the Jammin’ Marching Band, which will rehearse every Thursday in July. It is open to students and adults. The band will perform at regional parades throughout July. The band will be performing and marching to the music of “Super Mario Bros.” this year. This is the third summer the foundation has sponsored this group.

There is a fee of $50 per person to participate in the band. Jammin’ Marching Band will perform in the following parades: July 4 in Enumclaw, July 10 at Kent Cornucopia Days, July 16 at Covington Days, July 23 at Renton River Days and July 30 in the Seafair Torchlight Parade.

This summer marks the introduction of the foundation’s summer jazz improvisation workshop July 25-20 at Camp Berachah. Registration has been extended to July 1. The improvisation workshop costs $150.

The daily schedule will include jazz band, jazz combo rehearsal, improvisation and music theory as well as time to enjoy the camp’s other amenities such as the pool, zip line, go carts, among other opportunities.

A culminating student jazz concert will conclude the week. It is open to students in middle and high school.

Tuition assistance is available for the improvisation workshop.

The Carly Stowell Foundation is a non-profit organization that was founded by Chuck and Elena Stowell to honor the memory of their daughter, Carly, who died in 2007.

The foundation offers opportunities in two areas Carly was passionate about, music and sports, including teams, camps, clinics and more.
