A new regional, integrated system is expected to help police officers spend less time booking offenders into the King County Jail.
With speedier paperwork, prisoners will be handed off to jailers quicker, allowing officers to return to the streets faster, officials said.
The Booking and Referral System (BARS) could also eventually reduce some operational costs for the jail.
Todd Clark, a jail captain, said BARS “gives officers more up-to-date information, reduces the time they are off the street, and increases accuracy, which increases safety for officers, inmates and the community.”
