The weeklong closure of lanes on westbound I-90 at the East Channel Bridge is nearly done. All lanes of the interstate are scheduled to reopen by 5 a.m. Friday, July 25.
For the most part, drivers experienced pretty smooth sailing through the area. The reason we didn’t see massive, never-ending traffic jams is because of you, the commuter. You’ve done your part to keep regional traffic moving during construction. Every time we’ve asked for your help, you’ve stepped up in a big way. And for that we offer a very heart-felt thank you!
The other good news is that there are two new expansion joints on the bridge. Between now and Friday morning, the concrete will continue to cure for up to 12 hours, crews will finish up welding work, and then restripe I-90 so it’s back to normal by Friday morning.
Check out our Flickr page for pictures of the work, including photos of the old expansion joints. You’ll see exactly why this work needed to be done.
Once again, thank you for your efforts this week to keep traffic moving.
