Holiday basket food needs

The Maple Valley Food Bank provides around 500 local families and individuals with a holiday basket for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

These baskets contain food items necessary for a holiday meal.

Donations of the following would be greatly appreciated, Sigurros Welborn, Maple Valley Food Bank program and volunteer coordinator, wrote in an email.

Wanted items include: stuffing, gravy, broth, cornbread mix, canned pumpkin, canned sweet potato, sugar, coffee, cider mix and other seasonal, holiday items.

Monetary donations are also welcome and contribute to purchasing turkeys.

4Culture announces 2019 artist fellowship

On Oct. 17, 4Culture announced the Arc Artist Fellowship for individual artists in the region.

The fellowship, in its second year, provides operational support. An unrestricted award of $12,000 may be used to offset daily expenses to pursue their work, a release stated.

Application deadline is 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28.

Veterans Day ceremony at Tahoma National Cemetery

The Tahoma National Cemetery will host its 21st annual Veterans Day program celebrating the centennial of World War I.

This year’s ceremony includes keynote speaker Mary Elder, USN Veteran and assistant regional director for external affairs at U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Another guest speaker will be LCol Fawcett, Commanding Officer JBLM Detachment of the Royal Canadian Air Force Strategic Air Command.

To start this year’s program, a flyover by an open cockpit vintage Steersman Aircraft will kick off the event.

The event is scheduled for 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 11 at the main flag pole assembly area in the Tahoma National Cemetery.

Annual powder puff game next week

Tahoma High School’s powder puff game will be held Nov. 1 at Maple View Middle School football field.

An exhibition game of ninth and tenth graders will begin at 5 p.m. followed by the juniors vs. seniors at 7 p.m.

Cost is $6 per person. This event is a PTA fundraiser for senior scholarships and student activities.

There is no ASB discount.
