Upcoming events and classes at GMVCC during February.

The following are upcoming events and classes at the Greater Maple Valley Community Center:

Tuesday, Feb. 12 – Take a Hike

This outing will take us to Point Defiance Park for a 3.7 mile hike of moderate difficulty (3 on a scale of 1-5). The group will leave GMVCC at 8:00 a.m. Cost is $8, bring a lunch.

Wednesday, Feb. 13 – Happy Valentine’s Day!

Help us celebrate this international day of love! Wear something red, put on your best smile and come on in for some great food and fun! Festivities start at 11:30 a.m. (Bingo at 10:30 a.m.).

Friday, Feb. 15th – VA & Spouse Assistance

Joel Estey (206-612-2816) and Jeanette Moen (253-859-6439) will be at the center from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. to help all veterans and their dependents get benefits earned during their service to our country. No appointments are necessary and there is no charge for this service.

Monday, Feb. 18 – CLOSED FOR PRESIDENTS’ DAY

Tuesday, Feb. 19 – Museum of Flight

This nonprofit museum is one of the largest air and space museums in the world. Its collection includes more than 150 historically significant air and space crafts as well as the Red Barn®, the original manufacturing facility of the Boeing Co. and the new shuttle trainer, which was used by every US astronaut. Group will leave GMVCC at 9:30 a.m. Cost is $6 plus $8 for admission and money for lunch.

Wednesday, Feb. 27th  – Happy Birthday!

Come help us celebrate all of February’s birthday with Birthday Bingo at 10:00 a.m., live entertainment with Peggy, Willie and Friends at 11:00 and a great lunch at noon followed by birthday cake. If your birthday is in February, this event is free!

Aging Well Yoga

At 9:30 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Gently increase strength, flexibility, posture and balance. A 4-week class punch card is $23, 8-week class punch card is $44, 12-week class punch card is $60, drop in rate is $6. No reservations are necessary.

Move Strong Exercise

“The Fall Stop…Move Strong” exercise program was designed specifically to improve balance and strength. It is a series of 4 different 12-minute sessions. Exercise at 10:30 a.m. each Monday, Wednesday and Friday. This is free and no registration is necessary. Please note, no exercise on party days.

Adult Line Dancing

Every Wednesday from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. join Janie to learn the joys of line dancing. Wear light-weight comfortable clothes and leather-soled shoes (or shoes that are conducive to dancing). Bring your own water bottle. Cost is $5 for drop-ins or $50 for a pre-paid ticket good for 11 classes.

Painting

Calling all painters (all mediums) to paint, socialize, offer and give artistic feedback each Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. No experience is necessary, all levels of ability are welcome. Suggested donation $1.

We have a new class for all adults who have always been interested in painting but didn’t know where to start, Sally Hudak-Logan will be here from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. each Friday to show you the ropes. Sally will provide you with a supply list and show you the techniques involved to produce your very own painting. The 8-week class will cost $40. Register at the center.

The Senior Program of Greater Maple Valley Community Center, located at 22010 S.E. 248th St. in Maple Valley, invites alladults over 50 to the center on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Lunch is served at noon.

Lunch is served each Monday, Wednesday, Friday at noon for a charge of $3. Scholarships are available. Please note: all menus are subject to availability of food items.
