The Covington City Council voted on mandatory garbage service throughout the city during a council meeting in October.
On Feb. 12 it was announced that Covington residents and businesses that do not currently have garbage pick up services through Republic Services, will be required to do so on July 1.
According to a press release from the city, currently 5,000 residents and businesses already use Republic Services.
A mailer will be sent out this month from Republic to Covington residents and businesses including information regarding rates and can size options.
Recycling services will also be included at no additional cost to garbage customers, the release stated.
New Republic customers may also choose to participate in yard waste services but the press release stated yard waste will not be mandatory throughout the city.
Throughout the month of March, various sized garbage cans will be inside the lobby at Covington City Hall for residents to view and determine which size is best suited for their needs.
On March 30 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and from 5 to 7 p.m., an open house will be held to help residents get answers to questions if they have any.
City staff as well as Republic Services employees will be on hand during those open houses.
