Five teenagers have been arrested and released pending charges in an early morning break in at Rock Creek Elementary School in Maple Valley on Saturday.

Officers received a burglary alarm at the school just before 2 a.m. on Saturday, according to the King County Sheriff’s Office blog. Officers from Maple Valley and King County Sheriff’s Deputies responded. When officers arrived they discovered broken windows and the portable classrooms had been broken into.

The officers and deputies set up a perimeter around the school and a few minutes later a deputy who was using night vision equipment, saw four suspects running towards him, away from the school. Two of the suspects were taken into custody while the other three got away. The third suspect was arrested nearby a short time later.

Two other suspects were arrested the following day for their involvement in the burglary.

“This is an excellent example of the teamwork and partnerships between the Maple Valley Police Department, King County Sheriff’s Office and the Tahoma School District,” said Maple Valley Police Chief Michelle Bennett.

According to the Sheriff’s Office there was extensive damage to the school and cameras and emergency bags that had been stolen from the school were recovered.

The teens were released to parents pending charges being filed.
