Finance director receives certificate

During the Feb. 12 Maple Valley City Council meeting, city manager Laura Philpot received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting.

The certificate is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, according to a release from the city of Maple Valley.

Remembering Japanese American internment event next month

The month of February marks the 76th anniversary of the executive order that sent Japanese immigrants and citizens to detention camps.

Beginning at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 6 at The Chateau, 4450 Davis Ave. S, Renton, Mayumi Tsutakawa discusses the history through her family’s experience.

The event is hosted by the Renton South King Retired School Employees Association and all active or retired school employees are invited to attend.
