Finance Director receives award for 13th consecutive year | City of Maple Valley

At the City Council meeting on September 8, 2014, City Manager, David Johnston, presented Finance Director, Shawn Hunstock, with the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for his department’s commitment to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting.

At the City Council meeting on September 8, 2014, City Manager, David Johnston, presented Finance Director, Shawn Hunstock, with the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for his department’s commitment to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. The Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, issued by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA), is awarded only to those government agencies who meet nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation.

These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity’s budget serves as:

• a policy document

• a financial plan

• an operations guide

• a communications device

Budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all four categories, and the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award
