Police and dive teams pulled a vehicle out of Lake Sawyer after it fell in Sunday afternoon.
The Black Diamond Police Department, King County Sheriff’s Office Marine Team and Mercer Island Dive Team responded when a 1970 Ford F 150 rolled into the water while the owner was attempting to load jet skis onto a trailer. No injuries were reported to have occurred.
During the vehicle recovery, divers also discovered another vehicle in the lake believed to be from the 1950s or 1960s. It will not, however be recovered. According to Sergeant Greg Goral of the Black Diamond Police, taking the vehicle out of the water might cause more problems than leaving it there.
“It’s been down here so long you can kind of mess things up,” he said. “We’re not sure if we want to pull it out and risk structural damage.”
Goral explained a recovery might cause the vehicle to rupture and release oil and gas into the water, which would require a cleanup.
