Kentwood sophomore awarded highest rank

Kyler Howard, a member of Boy Scouts of America Troop 407, earned his Eagle ranking.

Throughout his time with the troop, Howard has held a number of leadership positions from Senior Patrol Leader, Troop Instructor to Patrol Leader adn Troop Guide.

For the past two years he has also volunteered at Camp Shepherd, Camp Edward and Camp Pigott.

Along with Howard, 27 people helped him with his Eagle project which was to landscape a section at the Tahoma National Cemetery.

He earned his ranking on Feb. 25 and recevied his Eagle Badge on June 12.

Eastern Oregon’s dean list

On June 22 Eastern Oregon University named 515 students to their dean’s list for the 2016 spring quarter.

Tyler Deskins from Black Diamond was one of the students named to the list.

Fifth annual choir day camp coming soon

Registration is now open for the Rainier Youth Choir’s summer day camp scheduled for Aug. 15 through the 18.

The day camp will be held at the New Hope Presbyterian Church.

Singing, percussion, crafts and games will be available for childern in third grade to ninth.

If interested, you can register at www.rainieryouthchoirs.org. Registration fee is $120.

The day camp runs from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. concluding with a concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18.

Coming this September to KSD elementary schools

As part of the state-wide WaKIDS program, students and parents will be able to meet with their kindergarten teachers on Sept. 1st, 2nd and 6th.

According to a Kent School District press release, “the program is designed to welcome families into the K-12 system.”

The first day of classes for KSD kindergarten student’s is Sept. 7.
