The city of Covington will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. on Jan. 28 to get feedback from the public about the Hawk Property Subarea Plan and the proposed planned action ordinance at the council chambers located at City Hall.
The Hawk property subarea is 212 acres located southeast of SR 18 on the northern border of the city. The subarea consists of the former Lakeside gravel mine, an asphalt batch plant and a highway interchange.
In 2013, the City tasked a consultant team to prepare the Hawk property subarea plan which will guide future development in the subarea (transition from mineral related uses to an urban village with commercial, residential, and recreational uses) and an environmental impact statement allow for efficient environmental review of future development proposals through a SEPA Planned Action.
A Final Planned Action EIS supporting the subarea plan was issued in November. In December, the city council received planning commission recommendations on the Hawk Property Preferred Subarea Plan and a Proposed Planned Action Ordinance. The planning commission recommendations will be the subject of the public hearing.
