On Saturday, Oct. 4 Covington Public Works hosted the Covington/King County Fall Recycling Collection Event. There were 531 carloads of recyclable material dropped off. The total amount of material collected was 94,974 pounds or 47.5 tons. The total averages out to 179 pounds of material per vehicle. The additional rain barrels were very popular and sold out very quickly.
The event included the collection of:
- 42,540 pounds of scrap metals, appliances, and electronic equipment
- 36 used refrigerators and freezers
- 25 propane tanks
- 6,840 pounds of scrap wood
- 6,900 pounds of reusable household goods
- 465 gallons of used motor oil and petroleum based products
- 35 gallons of used antifreeze
- 314 used oil filters
- 305 used tires
- 39 lead acid batteries
- 5,650 household batteries
- 18 toilets and sinks
- 9,300 pounds of cardboard
- 17 mattresses and box springs
