King County Sheriff’s detectives are looking for a man, John Alan Carter, age 51, suspected in the rape of a woman Tuesday, July 27, in Covington.
According to information provided by sheriff’s office spokesman Sgt. John Urquhart, after the assault Carter made the woman drive to an ATM, withdraw money then stole her car.
Sheriff’s detectives believe Carter lured the woman, whom he had known for several years, to a house in Covington. Once there, he sexually assaulted her at knifepoint over several hours.
Shortly before 3 a.m. Tuesday, detectives allege he then forced her to drive to a 7-Eleven in Renton and withdraw money from her bank account at an ATM. The woman refused to get back in the car with the suspect and he left in her vehicle.
The stolen car Carter is believed to be driving is a 2008 Jeep Liberty, blue with a Washington license 293XTS.
Urquhart stated in the release Carter is currently under Department of Corrections supervision from a 2007 arrest and subsequent conviction.
In the 2007 case he approached an unknown woman in the Westfield-Southcenter shopping mall parking lot and held a knife to her throat. He told the woman not to scream or she would be “hurt.” The victim screamed and Carter cut her before fleeing.
The Department of Corrections has issued an escape from community custody arrest warrant for Carter and charges are pending from the sheriff’s office. He has additional felony convictions for forgery and auto theft.
Carter is a white male, about 6 feet tall and 200 pounds. He has red/blond hair and brown eyes. He has a brown mustache, missing upper teeth, multiple tattoos on both arms and the tattoo “Robin” on one hand. He frequently wears glasses and speaks with a slight lisp.
The sheriff’s office stated if anyone sees Carter or the vehicle they should call the office at 206-296-3311, 24 hours or 911.
